A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting near Six Flags Over Georgia, a popular amusement park in suburban Atlanta, during an exchange of gunfire between police and multiple people, authorities said Sunday.
On Saturday, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office officers provided crowd control near the entrance to the amusement park “after several fights broke out” between people attempting to exit the park, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a press release. He announced that he was helping.

“At some point, multiple people began firing, striking an unoccupied CCPD marked patrol vehicle,” the statement said. “Once the officers located the shooting, they pursued the individuals who fled into the woods. During the incident, one of the CCPD officers fired, striking a minor.”

Officials said the 15-year-old boy was taken to Grady Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
No officers were injured, and police recovered a handgun near the 15-year-old boy, the GBI said. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting and will submit its findings to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.
