1 dead, 5 injured in shooting at Indianapolis bar

One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at an Indianapolis bar early Saturday morning, police said.

The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a bar in Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple neighborhood. Police officers in the area heard the gunshots and immediately responded. However, by the time officers arrived at the bar, the suspect had already fled the crime scene. Police provided first aid to the victim.

Indianapolis Metro Police Department Commander Matthew Thomas confirmed the deaths and injuries that occurred at the Landsharks bar and nightclub.

The shooting victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased once the family is notified of the death.

One of the shooting victims drove himself to the hospital.

The shooting victim, who is hospitalized, is said to be in stable condition.

All victims of the Indianapolis shooting were male.

Police did not have a suspect in custody as of Saturday morning.

“Violence in our community is completely unacceptable,” Thomas declared.

“We are deeply shaken by the tragic incident that occurred early this morning in which one person lost his life and another was injured. Good job by the officers at the Constabulary who responded quickly and provided assistance. We are very proud of this. Detectives continue to actively investigate this morning.”said Chris Bailey – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief.

WTHR “IMPD has not yet identified a suspect, but said they are interviewing witnesses and reviewing video recorded by cameras in the area,” police said in a statement.

Police did not immediately disclose the circumstances or motive for the shooting. Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect.
