Five middle school students were involved in a high-speed chase Thursday night that resulted in multiple crashes and the death of one minor, FOX 26 reports.
Police said officers were responding to another call when they spotted a gray Hyundai Sonata collide with another vehicle around 10 p.m. fox 26. Police attempted to stop the vehicle before pursuing it, leading to the fatal accident, the newspaper reported. The allegedly stolen vehicle crashed into multiple cars during the pursuit, and at one point collided with three other cars while trying to avoid a subway bus. According to FOX 26, the maneuver ultimately rendered the suspect’s vehicle inoperable.
According to the newspaper, officers pursued four suspects on foot who fled from the damaged vehicle, catching two of them and taking them into custody. The remaining two people, including the driver, remain on the run, the paper said. All suspects were boys between the ages of 12 and 13, FOX 26 reported, citing police.
When police returned to the allegedly stolen vehicle, they found one of the suspects, a 12-year-old, unresponsive inside, FOX 26 reported. The boy was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital, the paper said.
The two suspects in police custody were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. According to FOX 26, no injuries were reported to the occupants of the five vehicles the suspects allegedly crashed.
The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released. Houston police have not yet reported whether any suspects will be charged, but the investigation is ongoing, FOX 26 reported.
