1 dead after tractor-trailer collision on Connecticut interstate

One person was killed when two tractor-trailer vehicles collided on a highway in Connecticut early Thursday morning, sending the vehicle into a pond, officials said.

Police said the accident happened around 2 a.m. on Interstate 84 near the Ashford-Union city line. The two trucks were traveling in the eastbound lane.

Police said at least one person was taken to the hospital with initial reports of serious injuries.

The state Department of Transportation announced one person died in WVIT.

State police dive teams and environmental protection and consumer protection authorities were also on the scene.

The accident caused the highway to be closed for several hours. Some lanes have since reopened.
