Butler County, Pennsylvania District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed to CNN on Saturday that one spectator was killed and another was critically injured in an assassination attempt at a rally for former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Goldinger also said the shooter is deceased and that he fired shots from outside the rally venue, but it is unclear how the shooter got to where he fired the shots.
“I can confirm one spectator was killed, the other was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and the shooter has passed away,” Goldinger said.
Goldinger said the shooter would not have been able to get through the metal detectors, adding: “He was off the property, so to speak. So, frankly, I don’t know how he got there. But he was off the property.”
