A teenage gunman opened fire and injured 10 people early Sunday after a fight broke out during a private event at a Florida party venue, authorities said.
A trooper almost immediately tackled and disarmed the gunman, and another trooper handcuffed him until sheriff’s deputies arrived, according to a Seminole County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. .
The victim did not have life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The statement said 10 people were shot, mainly from the waist down, and were treated at a local hospital.

On Sunday, a 16-year-old suspect in the Florida incident was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center. He was charged with attempted murder, firing a firearm in a public place, use of a firearm during a felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor.
The shooting occurred during a crowded late-night event at Cabana Live in Sanford, about 20 miles north of Orlando. According to the venue’s website, the restaurant rents cabanas to host pool parties and other events.
Witnesses told law enforcement that the shooting started after a fight. According to the arrest report, someone not involved in the brawl pulled out a handgun and began firing into the crowd. A security guard standing near the gunman tackled him to the ground and disarmed him.

Two police officers who were assisting with private security at the venue quickly arrived and arrested the boy. A 9mm handgun and spent shell casings matching the bullets in the gun’s magazine were also recovered, according to the arrest report.
According to a post on Cabana Live’s Facebook page, the restaurant was hosting a private event when the shooting occurred and all employees were safe. She said a woman who answered the phone Sunday afternoon had no further comment.
“We are cooperating with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and wish everyone involved the best of luck,” the statement on social media said.
