106-year-old takes world record for oldest person to tandem skydive

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s in the 80s!

A 106-year-old man from Texas has regained his title as the world’s oldest tandem skydiver. According to Guinness World Records.

Alfred “Al” Blaschke first achieved this record in 2020 at the age of 103. At that time, he went skydiving to commemorate his twin grandsons’ college graduation.

“That was my dream […] I never thought I’d be here this long,” he told the Record Book at the time.

However, in 2022, Ruud Linnea Ingegard Larssona 103-year-old, 259-day-old Swedish woman took the title from him, so he vowed to take it back, and did so in November.

Blaschke was 106 years and 327 days old when he and Texas Governor Greg Abbott completed the incredible feat of jumping into the sky at an altitude of 9,000 feet.

Abbott met the brazen senior when he won his first record and promised to take part in the next challenge.

“If you think you can’t do it, you’re just underestimating yourself,” Blaschke told the crowd, including his children, grandchildren and members of the media.

“Everyone is capable of more than they think. They just need to make the decision to try.”
