(wtvo) – Frozen shakes sold to nursing homes and other agencies have been recalled after the deaths of 11 people after the outbreak of Listeria in 21 states. Federal Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA said Friday that the shaking had 37 hospitalised and at least 38 people became ill.
Frozen supplemental shakes under the brands Sysco Imperial and Lyons Readycare have been spontaneously recalled, according to the FDA. Shaking was primarily given to hospital patients and long-term care patients.
The states in the suit include Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Texas, Washington. Includes West Virginia.
The outbreak dates in 2018, but continues until 2025, including 20 cases between 2024 and 2025. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Investigators had not previously been able to identify the source.
Symptoms of Listeria infection include fever, muscle pain, nausea, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea. In more serious cases, symptoms may include headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and cramps.
“Listeria It can survive at refrigerated temperatures and easily spread to other foods and surfaces,” the FDA said.
