Massachusetts Youth Hockey Game Takes Violent Turn

A youth hockey match in Massachusetts escalated dramatically on Saturday when one player was seen slashing another in the face from behind, creating a disturbing scene.

The player from the Bay State Breakers has been suspended and may face additional penalties as a result of the incident.

The father of the injured player shared with 7News that his son is doing alright.

“The Breakers player has been suspended indefinitely from practices and games,” the team communicated to 7News. They also mentioned that the player who attacked sent an apology letter to his victim.

“Massachusetts Hockey is looking into the situation and will determine how long the suspension will last since they are the authority governing our sport,” they added.

During the game in Foxborough, reportedly involving mostly 11-year-olds, a player from the South Shore Kings was near his own goal when the Bay State player approached from behind.

The Bay State player struck his opponent right in the face from the side, causing both players to tumble onto the ice. The impact was so fierce it broke his stick in half.

One referee quickly intervened, skating over to separate the players as the teammates of the injured player rushed to his side. The offending player was ejected from the game.

A parent who recorded the incident mentioned that the two players had a minor confrontation earlier near center ice, but overall, the game hadn’t been marred by issues.

The spectators reacted with screams of shock after witnessing the attack.

Massachusetts Hockey informed 7News that they are “aware of the incident and are managing it according to the discipline processes set by Massachusetts Hockey and USA Hockey.”

The Bay State Breakers are described as a comprehensive hockey organization with teams that compete in various leagues, catering to ages 6 to 18, according to their website.

They stated, “The Breakers organization provides competition and development opportunities for our players in the top youth leagues for both boys and girls in New England.”
