A 12-year-old boy has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot a Sonic restaurant employee in Texas with an assault rifle.
The deadly crash at Keane’s Sonic Drive-In began Saturday night when 32-year-old employee Matthew Davis found a 20-year-old man urinating in a parking lot. NBC-DFW reportedsaid, citing police.
According to the report, Davis approached a man (who identified himself as Angel Gomez) as he was urinating and a fistfight ensued.
During the scuffle, a 12-year-old boy in Gomez’s car allegedly fired six shots from an assault rifle, hitting Davis.
Davis, the father of the alleged killer and a not-so-young boy, was airlifted to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.
Gomez and the boy fled, but were arrested hours later, according to reports.
The two were charged with murder.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragedy involving our franchise team members in Keene, Texas,” a Sonic spokesperson told NBC-DFW in a statement.
“Franchisees are cooperating fully with local governments conducting investigations.”
A GoFundMe, organized to support Davis’ family, said Davis left his 10-year-old son and mother behind.
A fundraiser said Davis’ mother Lee Ann worked as a flight attendant and learned her son had been killed while on duty.
“Ms Lee Ann received this sad and heartbreaking news during an overnight trip. We can only try to make sense of it,” the page reads.
