More than 100 passengers and crew members on the Queen Victoria cruise ship have contracted gastrointestinal illness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.
The Cunard Cruise Line ship is scheduled to depart on January 22nd and return on February 12th. CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) stated:
Of the total 1,824 passengers on board, 123 people reported feeling unwell during the voyage. Sixteen of the 967 crew members are also feeling unwell. These cases are from all previous travel and do not represent the number of active cases.
The cause is unknown, but symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting.
The cruise line and crew reported enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures in accordance with the ship’s outbreak prevention and response plan, according to the CDC. Sick passengers and crew members are isolated.
“VSP is remotely monitoring the situation, including responding to the outbreak onboard the ship and reviewing sanitary procedures,” the notice reads.
According to ABC News, the cruise will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and head to San Francisco before arriving in Honolulu.
