hunter bidenHe is testifying today as part of House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into his father. president biden.
In public?: No, behind closed doors. This is notable because Hunter Biden has been willing to testify for several months, but he has only spoken publicly.
💡 Why is this so important to Republicans? : Hunter Biden is at the center of impeachment inquiry. The Republican Party has suffered a series of major setbacks in recent days, including the arrest of Biden’s alleged confidential sources on charges of fabricating charges. So far, Republicans have been unable to substantiate the claims of the arrested FBI informant.

➤ There are four possible scenarios.
|
beginning: Lawmakers successfully passed four funding bills by Friday to avert a shutdown. This is the ultimate goal.
Number 2: Lawmakers pass another extension to buy some more time.
The third: Lawmakers could give up on passing the funding bill and instead pass another short-term extension that would last until the end of the year.
the 4th : Four funding bills will not be passed by Friday, resulting in a partial government shutdown.
hill alice foley I’ve written a helpful breakdown of these scenarios.

🔵President BidenUnsurprisingly, he won Tuesday’s Michigan presidential primary with about 81 percent of the vote.
But more interesting was his second place finish.: More than 100,000 people, or 13 percent of Democratic primary voters, voted as “irresponsible” in protest of Biden’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza. This is a bit worrying for Biden, as Michigan is a battleground state in the general election and the protests could be replicated in other states.

Biden’s challenger came in fourth place. :Member of Parliament dean phillips(D-Minn.) finished fourth behind Biden in “uncommitted” votes. Marianne WilliamsonI dropped out in early February.

🔴Original president trump defeat Republican rival nikki haleyMichigan State has a lead of more than 40 points. While this was a victory for Trump, it’s worth noting that despite Haley’s unexpected candidacy, she received about 25-30% of the Republican vote.
Will Hayley drop out? : No, she says she will remain in the race at least until Super Tuesday on March 5th.

➤ Side note — Biden campaign acknowledges protest votes:
|
hill alex gangitanoIt is reported that president biden ‘s reelection campaign acknowledges that more than 13 percent of Michigan’s Democratic primary voters voted “irresponsibly” in protest of Biden’s handling of the Israel-Gaza war.
gist of their message: Biden is committed to achieving peace in Gaza, and more than 800,000 people voted for the incumbent in the non-competitive primary.

➤ Yes, everyone *sees*, Mitch 👀:
|
senate minority leader Mitch McConnell(R-Kentucky) faces increasing pressure to support the former. president trump. Mr. McConnell and Mr. Trump have been at odds for years, and it will be difficult for Mr. McConnell to put aside these differences.
How much support does Trump have among Senate Republicans?: Thirty-two Senate Republicans, including four members of McConnell’s leadership team, support the former president.
If McConnell supports Trump : That would help Republicans’ chances of taking back the Senate in November.
hillal weaverHere’s how McConnell explains the difficult decisions he must make.
