13 Dems vote against resolution condemning Iran after Israel strike

On Thursday, more than a dozen House Democrats voted against a resolution condemning Iran’s airstrikes on Israel.

The resolution, which also affirms U.S. support for Israel in response to attacks deemed necessary, passed by an overwhelming vote of 404-14. Only one House Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), voted against the bill. Fox News Digital has reached out to Massey for comment.

He was joined by 13 Democrats, including Squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. Rashida Tlaib, Michigan; Cori Bush, Missouri; Ilhan Omar, Democrat, Minnesota. By Jamaal Bowman, D.Y. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., were among those who opposed the bill.

House Minority Leader Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), the No. 3 Republican in the House, harshly criticized Democrats who voted against condemning Iran in a statement to Fox News Digital after the vote.

“House Democrats’ hatred of Israel runs so deep that they would rather defend terrorists than support our strongest ally in the Middle East. With vote after vote, Democrats continue to solidify their position as a pro-terrorist party. “There are,” Emmer said.

Iran fired a barrage of rockets at Israel over the weekend in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Syria, with 99% of them intercepted. This is the first direct attack on Israel from mainland Iran, and tensions in the region have significantly increased.

The 13 progressives who voted against the bill are part of a growing faction within the Democratic Party that criticizes the United States’ strong ties to Israel, particularly in the wake of Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) criticized Democrats who voted against the bill.

Israel’s war against Hamas began on October 7, 2023, after militants from a pro-Palestinian terrorist organization invaded southern Israel, killing more than 1,000 people. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, said in the months that followed that more than 30,000 Palestinians had been killed.

House Republicans have capitalized on Democratic divisions over Israel and distanced themselves from the conflict by sticking to long-standing relationships. In response to the Iranian attack, House Republican leaders have lined up 17 bills affirming U.S. support for Israel and Iran for a vote this week.

Ocasio-Cortez criticized the effort in a statement earlier this week, saying, “Following last weekend’s unprecedented response by Iran to the Israeli consulate attack, the Republican majority is clearly seeking to further escalate tensions in the Middle East. “We’re using a series of bills.”

“This is a blatant attempt to distract from their own incompetence. We need real leadership from the House of Representatives at this time, not a resolution. I oppose any proposal.” A cynical attempt to further inflame tensions, destroy any path to peace in the region, and further divide Americans. It’s a commitment,” she said.
