Teen Rescues Mother from Violence
An incident in Alabama took a dramatic turn when a 13-year-old boy intervened during a violent confrontation between his mother and her husband. Authorities reported that the stepfather allegedly strangled the boy’s mother during an argument before turning on him.
On Monday evening, deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home near Underwood Road in Foley following a domestic violence report. Upon arrival, they found the boy restraining 32-year-old Darnell Hernandez-Lopez with a bicycle in the yard.
Hernandez-Lopez had sustained several facial injuries and was taken into custody after receiving treatment at the scene.
The boy’s mother recounted that during a heated argument, her husband had grabbed her throat and began to strangle her in front of the boy, prompting the child to seek help. When Hernandez-Lopez pursued him outside, a confrontation ensued. The boy managed to fight back, landing multiple punches to his stepfather’s face, which incapacitated him until the deputies arrived.
Hernandez-Lopez now faces charges of felony assault and strangulation and is being held at the Baldwin County Correctional Center with a bail set at $30,000. Additionally, officials noted that he is currently under immigration custody.
The mother, reflecting on the chaotic situation, expressed her fears for her son’s safety but recognized that he handled it well. “I was scared I thought he was going to get hurt, but he had the situation under control,” she shared, noting that both of them are safe now and did not suffer major injuries.
