Teen Charged After Assaulting Girl on NYC Sidewalk
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with assault following a disturbing incident captured on video, where he tackled a 15-year-old girl and stomped on her head in New York City.
The confrontation reportedly arose when the girl refused to share her phone number with the boy. Footage shows the suspect confronting the girl in East Harlem shortly after school, around 3:30 p.m. on a Monday.
Blocking her path at a crosswalk, the boy allegedly threatened to “beat the shit out” of her. An off-camera voice can be heard challenging the suspect, further escalating the situation. As she attempted to walk around him, the teen pushed her back, prompting her to call for help.
In an attempt to escape, the girl maneuvered around a parked car, but then the boy grabbed her from behind, lifting her off the ground and slamming her onto the sidewalk. He subsequently stomped on her head before walking away.
Police were alerted to the attack via a 911 call, responding to find the girl injured. She was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. The 14-year-old suspect was arrested later and charged with assault.
The victim’s mother expressed her outrage, stating, “This wasn’t even bullying; it was complete assault. He could have killed her.” She added that her daughter suffered various injuries requiring physical therapy, which has understandably left her traumatized. She criticized how the incident was shared online as a form of “entertainment,” and emphasized that her daughter would not be returning to that school due to safety concerns.
On the other hand, the suspect’s mother claimed her son was bullied by the girl and insisted they were friends rather than adversaries. She suggested that the attack was retaliation for an earlier incident where she alleged the girl had pushed him.
This situation highlights the complexities surrounding youth interactions today—it’s not just about what happened, but also how different perspectives can shape the narrative around it.
