Multicultural “Fete de la Musique” Festival Faces Violence and Disorder
The vibrant “Fete de la Musique” festival in France, known for its multicultural spirit, has been marred by incidents of violence, police clashes, and widespread looting. There have also been unsettling reports of unsolicited injections dubbed “evening bites.”
World Music Day, celebrated annually across France, took a turn for the worse this past weekend. As free concerts showcased street talent, authorities arrested 371 individuals during the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.
Reports indicate that 13 police officers sustained injuries, and 14 individuals were seriously hurt. Approximately 1,500 others required medical attention during the festivities, as noted by various sources.
In Paris, several stores, including well-known brands like Nike and Sephora, were targeted in looting incidents.
Of particular concern, 145 people sought police assistance, alleging they were victims of “stab wounds” or injections. The attackers reportedly used syringes on unsuspecting victims, primarily targeting young women.
Many victims, at first, might not realize they’ve been drugged. They may believe they’ve been bitten, only to later experience symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or even unconsciousness. This troubling phenomenon has become increasingly prevalent at music festivals and popular nightclubs.
In France, such incidents are often tied to the use of date rape drugs like GHB, raising alarming questions about the intentions behind these attacks. While some cases appear connected to sexual assault, others relate to different crimes, including theft.
It’s worth noting that this situation is not exclusive to France. A report from the British Parliament highlighted 1,382 cases involving students from September 2021 to January 2022.
In connection with the “evening bite” incidents during the festival, the French Ministry of Interior announced that 12 arrests had been made.
