A Florida police officer encountered an unusual situation when responding to a disturbance call at a home on Bartel Avenue in Port St. Lucie. Upon arrival, they found a 15-year-old girl in the street wielding a shovel. Surprisingly, she approached the police car and struck its hood with the shovel several times.
This incident, which happened on November 3 at about 4:45 p.m., was captured on body camera footage. One officer, as he stepped out of the car, expressed disbelief, saying, “Are you kidding me?” when he saw the girl, who also appeared to be holding a Taser.
Another officer commanded her to “put down the shovel!” Soon after, she tossed the shovel onto the road and made a gesture towards the officer, which was edited out of the video.
The police reported that the girl was arrested for felony mischief after causing over $1,200 in damage to the vehicle. In a Facebook statement, they emphasized their stance: “Regardless of age, anyone who intentionally damages property in the city will be arrested.” Thankfully, the girl was taken into custody without further incident.
The footage has garnered over 140,000 views online, sparking a variety of reactions from the public. Some viewers expressed relief that the officers weren’t harmed, while others shared concerns about the girl’s well-being. Comments reflected a mix of disbelief regarding her actions and sympathy for her possible personal struggles and the circumstances that led to her behavior.
