Authorities report that a 16-year-old girl was fatally stabbed during an incident at a Bronx deli on Tuesday afternoon.
Aliyah Williams was discovered with multiple stab wounds on her face, chest, and body when police arrived at the grocery store on Boston Road shortly before 4 PM.
She was taken to Jacobia Medical Center in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.
Her distraught grandmother, Rose Anderson, was on duty when she learned about a confrontation in the store that escalated, resulting in the knife fatally injuring her granddaughter.
“My relatives were just texting me a few hours ago,” she shared, still visibly shaken.
“She’s not a bad child, so I didn’t expect something like this to happen,” the grieving grandmother expressed, noting that Williams was well-mannered, attended school, and listened to her parents.
“It’s just sad to think she was overlooked by everyone. It’s a real shame she had to go this way. I hope they catch the person responsible.”
As of now, no arrests have been made. Police indicated the female suspect was dressed in all black, wearing white sneakers and either a red or pink headpiece when she fled the scene.
Nearby residents, usually accustomed to a quiet environment just two blocks away from where the incident occurred, are understandably rattled.
“I’ve lived on this block for a year, and nothing like this has ever happened. It’s been so quiet,” remarked Guy Smith, a neighbor to Williams’ family.
“It’s really heartbreaking. She was only 16, which makes it even more emotional for me. I can’t stop crying; all I want is to pay my respects.”
As the reasons for the altercation remain unclear, another local resident is seeking answers to the tragic situation.
“It’s sad beyond belief, and frankly, it doesn’t feel good,” Brian Jenkins said. “What’s disturbing is there are no clear answers. I really don’t know what happened… or why it even occurred. It’s just sad.”
Police have stated that they are continuing to investigate the case.
