A teenage lacrosse player from Ohio died on Thursday following an unfortunate accident during a game where he was struck in the back of the head.
Dylan Beserick, 16, a player at Bay Village High School, passed away two days after the incident, which occurred on Tuesday.
The impact was particularly tragic, affecting the base of his skull right below his helmet.
Despite undergoing surgery on Wednesday, the procedure did not succeed, and he ultimately succumbed to a brain injury.
Lacrosse balls can travel at speeds between 80 and 110 mph, propelled from the lacrosse sticks.
The family expressed gratitude to those who have shown support during this tough time. They stated, “We are deeply moved by the overwhelming support and kindness that has been shown in our community and beyond. We ask that you continue to keep your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Scott Place, the Headmaster of Bay Village School, remarked, “Dylan is a dedicated student and athlete, and we are heartbroken by this loss. Counseling services are available at Bay High School for students, staff, and families in need.”
