Texas Teen Allegedly Plotted to Assassinate Congressman

A 17-year-old from McKinney, Texas, is accused of planning to kill Republican Congressman Keith Self, allegedly motivated by ISIS propaganda. This disturbing information comes from federal sources.

The teen reportedly acquired a firearm, which is concerning since he’s not of legal age. His initial plan was to execute the attack during a public cook-off event; however, the FBI apprehended him on October 5. He is currently in federal custody.

In response to the threat, Congressman Self, who co-founded the Sharia-Free America Caucus and introduced legislation aimed at safeguarding the Constitution from Sharia Law, expressed the need to accept risks in safeguarding the nation. “Preserving our constitutional republic from radical Islam means accepting the costs that come with it—name-calling, threats, and worse,” he noted in a recent post.

Self shared that he learned about the threat after the FBI informed him about the arrest of someone trying to gain notoriety through violence against him. “When we knew about it, they had him,” he reflected, expressing gratitude toward the FBI for their prompt action. He acknowledged that they had been monitoring the teen for some time.

Interestingly, Self mentioned that threats against Congress members are more common than many realize. He clarified that while he had encountered threats before, this one was particularly serious and warranted immediate action from law enforcement. “So often we hear that somebody does something and then you find out later that the FBI had him on some sort of watch list and didn’t take action,” he explained, emphasizing his appreciation for the FBI’s responsiveness in this instance.

Despite calling the situation “very unsettled,” Congressman Self remains undeterred. He reflected on his military background, having served 25 years and been deployed several times, stating that he felt reassured knowing law enforcement had things under control.

The Congressman, gearing up for re-election, stood firm against Sharia Law, labeling it a “dangerous” ideology. He has expressed that the United States Constitution and Sharia are fundamentally incompatible, suggesting that while Western values have evolved, he sees Islam as stagnant, “stuck in the 8th century.” He warned that if radical beliefs were imposed on society, it could lead to a regression into darker historical times.

Self is set to face off against Democrat Evan Hunt in the upcoming congressional election, following a decisive victory last year where he secured 62.5% of the votes against Democrat Sandeep Srivastava.
