17-year-old prodigy graduates with master’s degree in computer science: ‘I am proud of myself’

A Pittsburgh-area teenager who is old enough to earn a high school diploma instead recently crossed the stage to receive another diploma: a master’s degree in computer science.

On Saturday, 17-year-old Raja “RJ” Krishnaswamy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a master’s degree in computer science. He completed his master’s program in his first year and had just graduated with his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Pitt University last spring.BS/MS programs” at school.

In fact, Mr. Krishnaswamy holds two other university degrees. He earned an associate’s degree in mathematics and an associate’s degree in software economics from Allegheny County Community College. He first enrolled in his CCAC when he was 9 years old, when most of the kids were in his 4th grade or his 5th grade.

“College classes are fun,” he told Pittsburgh Magazine in 2017. “The classes are thought-provoking.”

Krishnaswami showed strong intellectual aptitude from an early age, a very early age.he reportedly She started singing the alphabet song when she was eight months old, reading the “Harry Potter” series at age three, and solving algebra problems a few years later.

“His Christmas list included 30 books on various math topics,” recalls Krishnaswami’s proud father, also known as Raja Krishnaswami. “His list was so long, and most of it was books, so that’s what he wanted.”

Still, getting a master’s degree at Pitt wasn’t easy. RJ Krishnaswamy said that like almost all master’s students, he too “had to defend his thesis.” “It was a lot of work,” he said.

Mr. Krishnaswamy has not decided what he will do next, but he has applied to the doctoral program at Pitt, where at least one professor believes he has further academic potential. I definitely believe that it is. “Toward publication!” says computer science professor Daniel Mosse.

Krishnaswami hopes to one day become a software programmer like his father. But for now, he’s enjoying mixed results.

“I’m proud of myself,” he said after graduating last year.

“It was just amazing!”
