1776 Project PAC compiles accounts of teachers honoring Kirk's death

A conservative education reform group has reported gathering over a hundred accounts of educators who appeared to celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk.

“We consider this a form of accountability,” said Stefano Forte, the executive director of the 1776 Project PAC. He emphasized their intent to ensure that future students are not taught by extremists. Forte mentioned they’ve received numerous submissions regarding this issue and are currently reviewing them.

Since Kirk’s death on September 10, instances of educators and administrators expressing joy or making inappropriate remarks about it have emerged, drawing considerable criticism.

The 1776 Project PAC, initiated by Ryan Gardusky during the pandemic in 2021, aims to challenge progressive influences in education. Their focus is on reforming school boards nationwide by backing conservative candidates.

“We’re quite unique as a PAC, especially when it comes to school board elections. Traditionally, this isn’t a priority for the Republican establishment,” Forte explained. He noted that the PAC has become increasingly aware of educational setbacks linked to pandemic-related school shutdowns, leading to a decline in academic performance.

Since April, they have supported over 350 school board elections, achieving victories in more than 200 races across the country.

Forte further asserted that the attempts to remove teachers who celebrate Kirk’s death expose “radical” aspects of the public education system. The PAC has created a reporting system for such incidents, aiming to hold accountable those who rejoice over the conservative leader’s assassination.

“This project helps parents gain insight into the educators teaching their kids. It’s vital. We are not looking to stifle free speech; rather, we want to amplify it, enabling a more profound understanding of what educators genuinely believe,” added Forte, mentioning that they have received thousands of pieces of feedback and anticipate that about 100 will be meaningful.

The murder of Charlie Kirk has reignited discussions surrounding the treatment of conservative activists on campuses. Kirk was notably in the spotlight during an event at Utah Valley University when he was killed.

Erica Kirk, his widow, has been appointed as CEO and chair of the board for TPUSA, which runs numerous college and high school chapters. In a stark contrast to the reactions following her husband’s death, Erica garnered praise for her act of forgiveness towards the alleged perpetrator at the memorial service.

“By disseminating names and accounts, we raise awareness that Kirk’s death was viewed as a celebration by some. Our objective is to amplify voices that feel strongly about this,” Forte remarked, underscoring the organization’s mission to ensure transparency within schools.

Turning Point USA has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding this situation.
