Cyclosporosis outbreaks surge in 41 states
The CDC has reported over 4,000 cases of cyclosporiasis across 41 states. Dr. Mark Siegel has shared his insights regarding these parasite outbreaks, along with an FDA committee’s suggestion to relax some peptide regulations.
Recently, at least 19 cadets from a military-style youth academy in the Washington, D.C., area were hospitalized due to symptoms of an unidentified illness, which raised concerns across the region. Emergency teams responded to the Capital Guardian Youth Challenge Academy in Laurel, Maryland, after one cadet began exhibiting symptoms following lunch, according to the D.C. National Guard.
This academy, managed by the D.C. National Guard, serves as a military-style intervention program aimed at aiding at-risk teens.
A mother of one cadet shared with FOX 5 that her son had elevated carbon monoxide levels revealed through testing at the hospital. He reportedly exhibited late-onset symptoms like dizziness, headaches, and nausea, developing hours after other cadets were treated.
Additionally, she mentioned that the academy has temporarily shut its doors in light of this incident.
However, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department conducted a carbon monoxide assessment and found no elevated levels, according to local police.
Officials have yet to determine the cause of the illness but suspect it might be food-related. The D.C. National Guard emphasized that the well-being of cadets and personnel is their top concern, and they are collaborating with emergency medical teams and public health officials as they investigate.
In total, 19 cadets were sent to hospitals, while one adult was assessed on-site but declined further medical assistance. FOX News Digital has reached out to the D.C. National Guard for more information.
