Explosion at Munitions Plant in Tennessee
On Friday morning, an explosion devastated a munitions plant in Hickman County, Tennessee. Reports indicate that nineteen individuals are currently missing and are feared dead as a result of the incident.
The explosion took place around 7:45 a.m. at Accurate Energetic Systems, according to a report from News Channel 5 Nashville. The cause remains unclear, as highlighted by the Associated Press. A related report mentioned a tragic explosion at a sheriff’s facility, which led to multiple fatalities.
Gray Collier, a spokesperson for the Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency, assured that there was no further danger of explosion and that the situation was under control by Friday afternoon.
Tennessee Sheriff Chris Davis expressed the severity of the situation, stating, “There’s nothing to explain. It’s gone,” when asked about the state of the building.
The total number of casualties is still uncertain, although Sheriff Davis mentioned that “19 souls are currently missing.” The facility reportedly employs around 80 people, yet it is unclear how many were on-site at the time of the explosion, according to Hickman County Mayor Jim Bates.
Attempts to reach Sheriff Davis for additional comments were unsuccessful, and Accurate Energetic Systems has yet to respond to inquiries.
