Two boys were swept away and drowned in a torrent in Oklahoma City Monday, while two others were rescued.
According to FOX 25 in Oklahoma City, the four were fishing in the waters behind Oberholser Lake Dam as part of a birthday celebration when the two decided to go swimming.
Two boys aged 10 and 11 entered the water and one lost his shoes, FOX 25 reported.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department said two other older boys also entered the water, but four were swept away when the dam’s floodgates were open, creating a strong current.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department said strong currents pulled two boys into the water and two others to a concrete ledge.
Firefighters arrived and rescued two people trapped in a shelf. Rescuers soon found the body of a third boy in the water.
Fire and police officials closed the spillway for search operations and also used rafts and drones to search for the missing boy.
The search for the fourth boy continued late into the night, and the body was finally found before 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Fire officials have not released the names or ages of the victims, but Fox 25 reported that the two victims were boys aged 10 and 11.
It rained heavily in Oklahoma City early Sunday morning, with over 3 inches of rain in just a few hours and gusts of 110 mph at the Oklahoma City airport.
