Two people were killed and three others were injured when a BMW and a Nissan Rogue collided and crashed into an elevated subway pole in the Bronx on Saturday, police said.
Police said the fatal crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. under the 4th train station at Jerome Avenue and East Fordham Road in University Heights.
Police said the BMW was traveling northbound on Jerome Avenue when it collided with a Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound on Fordham Road, which then struck the convoy.
“The BMW then collided with an elevated train pole,” a New York City Police Department spokesperson said.
Emergency services took the 23-year-old male driver and a male passenger in his 20s to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.
Police said the three women in the Nissan, the driver and two passengers, were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
New York City police are investigating whether speed may have played a role in the fatal crash.
