2 dead after wrong-way SUV plows into unsuspecting driver on Long Island parkway

Two men were killed Wednesday night when a wrong-way driver crashed on a Long Island highway.

According to New York State, Byron DeJesus Alvizures Cifuentes, 28, was driving a 2013 Honda Civic north on Meadowbrook State Parkway near Hempstead around 11:30 p.m. However, a 2020 Nissan Rogue that was traveling the wrong way collided head-on. police.

Authorities say the driver of the Nissan, Timothy Peter Reed, 64, of Huntington, somehow entered the northbound lanes of the freeway alone.

Both died at the scene.

Police have not released a reason for the crash, and state police are still investigating.
