2 injured after gunman shoots SUV driver in chaotic NYC shooting: NYPD

A gunman shot an SUV driver on a Queens street Saturday morning, and a second man was wounded by bullets believed to have been fired by responding officers, police said.

Police said the chaotic incident happened around 3:15 a.m. at 89th Avenue and Roosevelt Street in Jackson Heights when an armed man opened fire on a black Toyota SUV, striking a 44-year-old man inside the vehicle.

An officer who responded to the scene fired one shot from his gun, but it was unclear if the bullet struck anyone, police said.

Police said the 44-year-old man who was shot was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

A second man, 28, was shot in the groin and taken to the same hospital.

Police said it was unclear whose bullet struck him.

The shooter fled and no arrests were made.

The NYPD’s detective division is investigating the incident, a police spokesman said. The specialized unit investigates possible police-involved shootings.

Police said no further information was immediately available.
