2 men arrested in connection to Saturday shooting incident on Vanderbilt University campus

One person was injured and two men were arrested in a shooting on the Vanderbilt University campus Saturday afternoon, Metro Nashville Police told Fox News Digital.

Police said the incident occurred around 4.30pm on Saturday after an argument broke out between construction workers working at Sutherland House, a student accommodation facility.

Police said no one was in the dorm at the time of the shooting.

The suspects were arrested and identified by police as Luis Enrique Ramirez Sandoval, 38, and Jose Humberto, 27.

Both men were arrested by Vanderbilt police at a nearby market.

In response to the shooting, campus police issued a campus-wide alert to avoid the area.

The Uvalde school shooter’s uncle tried to intervene, but his call came 10 minutes after the shooter was dead.

Vanderbilt officials said three people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Metro Nashville police said one of the victims, a 19-year-old man, was shot in the arm.

Vanderbilt University released a statement to Fox News Digital saying it was working with police on an investigation between an outside contractor who provided maintenance for the dorms.

An alert was issued on the Vanderbilt University campus after reports of a shooting Saturday afternoon that left multiple injuries and two arrests. (WZTV)

“There is no ongoing threat to the university campus. Two individuals are currently in custody and three individuals were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries,” the university said in a statement.

Police said a gun was found in Sandoval’s possession and he was charged with aggravated assault.

Humberto is charged with aiding and abetting aggravated assault for allegedly taking a gun from Sandoval before the shooting, police said. Additional charges against Sandoval are pending.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
