As 2025 begins, two men were killed and eight others injured in multiple cuts, stabbings and two shootings across the Big Apple, police said.
In the first homicide of the year, a 50-year-old man was found with a slashed neck on the corner of West 137th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem around 4:20 a.m., authorities said.
Police said the man was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A 39-year-old man listed as a person of interest was taken into custody for questioning, authorities said.
The motive for the attack is under investigation.
The second killing occurred about an hour later, when Mario Fowler, 46, was shot to death and a 23-year-old man was wounded in front of an apartment building on East 170th Street near Clay Avenue in the Claremont Village section of the Bronx, police said. did. .
Fowler, who had both legs exploded, managed to escape to his building down the block, where someone called 911, authorities said.

The man was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.
Police said the young victim was found around the corner with abrasions to his jaw.
Two people were injured when a gunman approached a group standing outside the building and opened fire.
It is unclear whether either man was the intended target.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Police said three men, ages 26, 27 and 30, were slashed in the head during another disturbance on Grand Street near Roebling Street in Williamsburg around 4:50 a.m. .
They were taken to Woodhull Medical Center and listed in stable condition.
The motive for those slashings is unknown.
An hour after the iconic ball drop in Times Square, police said a 51-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach during a confrontation at 38th Street and Eighth Avenue around 1 a.m., police said.
He was taken to Bellevue where his condition was reported to be stable.
Farther north, two men were stabbed, one in the stomach and one in the hand, during a crossfire at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue around 2 a.m., police said.
The violence continued during the day, and around 1 p.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in the neck just outside St. James Park on the Grand Concourse near East 192nd Street, police said.
He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating the motive.
