Record Removal of Illegal Immigrants Under Trump Administration
Since January 20, approximately 2 million illegal immigrants have either been “removed or self-reported,” marking a significant shift in immigration enforcement, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Trump administration is on track to set new records.
In under 250 days, an estimated 1.6 million individuals voluntarily reported their status, while federal law enforcement removed around 400,000. DHS described this as a “new milestone.”
“The Trump administration is moving at a pace that could potentially lead to the deportation of nearly 600,000 illegal aliens by the end of the first year of President Trump’s tenure,” the department stated. They emphasized that the “era of open borders is over,” noting that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has not released any illegal aliens into the country for four consecutive months.
DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin remarked that these figures demonstrate “the effectiveness of President Trump’s policies and Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s leadership in maintaining safety within the American community.”
Increased Detentions in Sanctuary Cities
The number of detainees in sanctuary cities has surged under Trump compared to the previous administration, as per DHS reports.
“Enhanced immigration enforcement focuses on the most problematic individuals, effectively reducing the number of criminal and illegal aliens every day,” a department spokesperson commented. They also stated that a heightened job market in U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has attracted over 150,000 applications in recent weeks, reflecting improvements since Trump’s administration began.
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt confirmed that “deportation has begun,” sharing visuals of migrants boarding military flights.
The DHS conveyed that the capacity for deportation is expanding, with new detention facilities being negotiated, which may streamline the process for detaining and deporting illegal aliens.
Leavitt declared, “President Trump has sent a strong and clear message globally. If one enters the United States illegally, there will be serious consequences.”
