2 Oklahoma firefighters injured while battling 5,200-acre weekend wildfire

Two Oklahoma volunteer firefighters are recovering from burns sustained while fighting a weekend wildfire in northwest Oklahoma, authorities said Monday.

Moorland Fire Chief Travis Case told The Associated Press that Moorland firefighters Jared Britten and Max Clark were injured Saturday when their truck caught fire.

“The wind was blowing 55 miles an hour,” Case said. “It just kind of came around them.”

Both firefighters were taken to the Oklahoma City burn unit, where Clark was treated and released. Mr Case said Britain remained in serious but stable condition as of Monday.

The fire has burned about 5,200 acres in Woodward County and forced about 300 people in the town of Sharon to evacuate their homes at one point Saturday, Woodward County Emergency Management Director Matt Rehenbauer said. Ta.

No residential buildings were destroyed and the fire was about 45% contained on Monday, Lehenbauer said.
