Two Virginia police officers were shot dead late Friday night during a traffic stop, authorities said.
The Virginia Beach Police Department confirmed the deaths in a statement posted on social media on Saturday. No other information was available immediately.
“This is still a very active investigation and we cannot share much information at this time,” the police statement said. “But we want to ensure that there is no positive threat to our community.”
The police department added that it is seeking patience from its people when it comes to investigating and “grief over his loss.”
A police department spokesman did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.
