Alabama Crimson Tide (-280) vs. LSU Tigers (+255)
What could be better than Saturday’s SEC matchup? The Crimson Tide will travel to Baton Rouge for a rivalry game against the Tigers.
Alabama leads the conference but suffered a blowout loss to Auburn on Wednesday night. I will focus on two points from this game that are relevant to Saturday’s matchup. The first was a turnover.
The Crimson Tide had 15 turnovers in the game against Auburn. Simply put, it will make you lose the game every time. Considering some of the issues LSU has on defense, it’s unlikely they’ll score that many points in this game, but as an AP Top 25 team, Alabama will do well in March. This will require further improvement.
On the positive side, the tide held Auburn to just 26.3% from behind the arc. That’s partly because Auburn isn’t a great 3-point shooting team, but Bama’s defense is usually very solid at that position.
To LSU’s credit, they’ve played pretty well defensively this year, but they’ll need a near-perfect performance to slow down the high-powered Alabama offense. One of the reasons for the Tigers’ poor performance is their 3-point shooting. They allowed the second-most attempts and made the second-most threes of any team in the conference.
That bodes ill for an Alabama team that ranks first in the conference in 3-pointers and 3-pointers made and third in 3-point shooting percentage.
Taking all of this into consideration, the spread is 7 in favor of the Crimson Tide for a total of 166.5 points. Alabama will run away with this, so bet on the spread here.
