The world of golf never stops delivering epic stories.
Less than a week after Rory McIlroy won the amateur low Masters from Augusta’s annual outing last year, he became his own name.
Also, low amateur Neil Shipley at the US Open last year won his first professional event at Lecom Suncoast Classic in Florida on Saturday. Although five playoff holes were needed, Neal can officially say he is the winner on the professional tour.
“Yeah, that last putt was a long putt, but definitely just a relief. Obviously, I had to try it out in the hopes of him making a putt, but once he didn’t go it would have been amazing.
Shipley beat Suntek Lee in the five-hole playoffs and the outcome was clearly very excited by his way. It’s always great to see emerging players officially announce themselves, but Neil has become a bit of a favorite as he documented his journey in season 3 of Netflix in the Masters Tournament and the aftermath. Full swing.
As noted, Shipley was low in amateurs at the event, but after making the cut he started playing on weekends as well. Among the most notable parts of his Masters experience was that he was paired with Tiger Woods in the final round on Sunday.
Saturday’s results were a key step in Shipley’s career. He considers him to be someone around the professional circuit for a while.
This was an important victory for Shipley as the players who finished in the top 20 on the Korn Ferry Tour earned status on the PGA Tour the following season.
“We’re going to make golf take care of itself. I’m going to focus on winning again and try to get a third of it. So, that’s great, get out of here a little earlier. No, I’m not worried about it because I’ll just play good golf and take care of it.”
Congratulations, Neil Shipley!
