2024 St. Patrick’s Day best cities to celebrate, ranked — NYC snubbed

Irish locals are far from smiling after New York City was knocked out of the top five, behind the likes of Reno, Nevada and Savannah, Georgia, in a ranking of the best U.S. burgers to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Using a difficult but painstaking methodology, the snakes in the grass wallet hub The shock survey gave Gotham a dark look, giving the top spot to another small city: Boston.

Big bucks are coming in as New York gears up. host the oldest and largest parade The event, the first of its kind in the country, is expected to draw two million people to the Big Apple on Saturday, March 16, nearly four times the population of Dublin.

But the parade’s legendary status, combined with the tri-state’s rich Irish-American history and the largest collection of Irish pubs and restaurants in the U.S., made it a wallet hub that staggered its way from Chicago to Savannah. Cities were given slots on the list based on their performance in four different key categories: tradition, cost, safety/accessibility and weather.

Corned Beef and Cabbage at Steam Table, home of Ellis Island and Jimmy Breslin, received the highest score for tradition, ranking No. 5. Less prominent Irish cities like Seattle remained the best in this category.

Additionally, New York’s notoriously high prices and severe weather forecast for the weekend slowed the city down. Despite the annual rich display of New York’s finest and bravest people as part of the annual celebration, safety and accessibility issues also appear to have been major concerns.

Savannah’s high ranking appears to be due to its weather score of 5 and safety score of 6. The city had just 38 heritage points.

This historic coastal city is known as the center of southern Irish immigration, with well over 2,000 people arriving from the Emerald Isle between 1800 and 1861.

Local sources say the history of Ireland and Northern Nevada dates back to the mid-1800s, when two Irishmen minted silver near Virginia City, the Silver State’s largest population center at the time.

“They made up a large portion of the population and workforce,” former Nevada State Historic Preservation Officer and Virginia City historian Ron James told USA Today.

“Many came from County Cork where tin and copper were the only underground mines operating at the time (in Ireland).”

Ireland’s population boomed after the Silver Strike of 1859, when rumors spread in Ireland that they might emigrate directly to Virginia City. James said this is an attractive idea for people who want to avoid living in East Coast slums.
