2025 Baseball Hall of Fame class could have distinct New York flavor

Tuesday's Baseball Hall of Fame induction announcement may have a particularly New York feel.

According to ballot tracker Ryan Thibodeau, not only is CC Sabathia on track to easily become the latest Yankee to be inducted into Cooperstown's Hall of Fame, but as of Monday afternoon, former Mets Carlos Beltran and Billy・Wagner is also said to be on track to be inducted into Cooperstown's Hall of Fame (@NotMrTibbs (Bluesky)).

And Ichiro Suzuki, who spent more than two seasons in the Bronx, is also a strong candidate for selection, with a chance to join Mariano Rivera as the only players to receive a unanimous vote.

The results will be announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America on Tuesday.

If Sabathia and Beltran are inducted into the Hall of Fame, they could become the first players to have Yankees and Mets names written on their Hall of Fame plaques in the same year.

The player and the Hall will jointly decide which team's logo will be painted on the Hall of Fame shield.

Sabathia, whose name appears on 93.6 percent of the released ballots as of Monday afternoon, said he plans to enter the venue wearing a Yankees cap for the first time since at least 2019.

And most indications are that Beltran will take the Met job if elected. Beltran was at 80.3% as of Monday.

Player nominations must be included on 75% of the ballots, but the final number of votes is often below the popular vote tally. It would be a leap forward for Beltran, who is in his third year on the ballot after finishing with 57.1 percent a year ago.

As the Post's Mike Vaccaro recently pointed out, Beltran's checkered career in Queens included revelations about his role in the Astros' sign-stealing scandal and Beltran being fired as manager before entering spring training. Nevertheless, the outfielder's best season was with the Mets from 2005 until mid-2011, when he was traded to the San Francisco Giants.

Beltran appeared in about the same number of games with the Mets (839) and Royals (795), but had better numbers with the Queens (129 games with an OPS or better with the Mets, 111 games with the Royals).

The same goes for Sabathia. Sabathia played in Cleveland and won the only Cy Young Award of his career, but most of his success came with the Yankees.

Sabathia won 134 of 251 games in 11 seasons with the Yankees, leading them to the World Series championship in 2009.

Wagner spent four of his 16 years in MLB with the Mets, compared to nine as an Astro. Wagner, who is participating in the Screenwriters Poll for the 10th and final time, was at 84.6% as of Monday, down from 73.8% a year ago.

“A lot of things are at play in this,” Wagner told The Post's Mike Puma. “For me, it's essential for kids from small towns who got an opportunity and took advantage of it to look at it and say it's possible.”

Other notable names on the ballot with local ties include Andy Pettit (who finished with 13.5 percent a year ago but won 33 percent in his seventh year of eligibility), Alex That includes Rodriguez (41 percent in his fourth year, compared to 34.8 percent last year). , David Wright (11.2 percent in his second year after 6.2 percent last year), Francisco Rodriguez (8 percent Monday).

Andrew Jones, who played the final two years of his career with the Yankees, shot 72.3% as of Monday, up from 61.6% last year.

Manny Ramirez had 36.7%. Next year will be his 10th and final year on the ballot.
