The College World Series marks the finale of four months of college baseball competition, with eight teams set to compete in Omaha, Nebraska for the NCAA championship.
This event has taken place in Omaha since 1950, making this the 75th edition. Notably, the series was not held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year features one of the most diverse group of teams seen so far. For the first time since the NCAA Baseball Tournament expanded in 1999, no team that participated last year made it to this year’s series, which now includes regional and super regional rounds before the CWS.
The teams in the running this year are Arizona, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Louisville, LSU, Murray, Oregon, and UCLA. Murray is making its inaugural trip to Omaha. Over the years, these teams have garnered a total of 16 national titles, with LSU winning the most at seven (most recently in 2022), followed by Arizona with four (last in 2012) and UCLA with three (last in 2018).
Among the teams, the SEC is represented by two qualifiers, Arkansas and LSU, while the former PAC-12 conference features alumni from Arizona, Oregon, and UCLA.
The CWS is organized into two brackets, each with four teams, engaging in a double elimination format, which will lead the winners into the Championship Series. The first game kicks off on Friday, June 13th, and the champions will be crowned on either June 22nd or June 23rd.
