Morningstar Investment Conference in Chicago
On June 25th and 26th, investors and advisors will convene at Navy Pier in Chicago for the annual Morningstar Investment Conference.
The agenda’s full of sessions that cover a range of topics relevant to today’s investors. For financial advisors, Morningstar’s Editor-in-Chief Cheryl Rowling shares a panel recommendation.
If you can’t attend in person, video interviews with both internal and external experts will be available below. You can also bookmark the page—Morningstar’s Markets team will provide key investment updates and market insights, and a link to their coverage will be available when the article goes live.
Additionally, two live streams will be available on LinkedIn during the conference. On June 25th, Morningstar’s CEO Kunal Kapoor will give a keynote talk focusing on private market investments. Following this, he and Marc Rowan, the CEO of Apollo Global Management, will discuss the convergence of public and private markets and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Highlights from the Conference
This year, the spotlight is on the merging of public and private markets. Asset managers are increasingly creating private asset products for ordinary investors, while gatekeepers analyze the associated risks and potential uses. Morningstar’s Jack Shannon will delve into the investment options available for directors at major banks like Bank of America, UBS, and Wells Fargo. As Shannon has noted, there’s no guarantee that private equity funds will outperform basic public equity ETFs, so doing your homework is really essential.
Meanwhile, Brian Armour, the Director of Passive Strategies Research at Morningstar, will lead discussions about the logistics of private assets in exchange-traded funds. Given that private investments are moving toward public exchanges, it’s important for average investors to educate themselves before diving in.
In a recent episode of Invest Insights, Armour highlighted critical information that investors should consider.
To tackle the noise around the current economic state, Rick Rieder, BlackRock’s CIO of Global Bonds and this year’s winner of the Outstanding Portfolio Manager Award from Morningstar, will offer insights into government fiscal and monetary policies and their implications for global markets.
Additionally, Morningstar’s Chief Multi-Asset Strategist Dominic Pappard will share his thoughts on global equities and fixed income, detailing where investors might find the best opportunities.
Damien Conover from Morningstar Equity Research, along with other analysts, will examine current trends and look for strategic opportunities in the market. They will focus on topics like AI stocks and innovations in healthcare, which could significantly affect sector growth.
Panel Discussions with Asset Managers
The conference aims to gather leading portfolio managers for panels moderated by Morningstar’s research analysts. Topics will span from cryptocurrencies to municipal bonds.
Morningstar’s Stephen Margaria will lead a discussion focusing on cryptocurrencies. This follows a recent conversation with a BlackRock leader who examined Bitcoin as a diversification tool. Margaria also pointed out that while cryptocurrencies have gained popularity, they can pose difficulties in portfolio management due to their volatility.
In contrast, municipal bonds have been dragging. Associate Director Beth Foos will moderate discussions with Muni-Bond Managers from firms like JP Morgan and Capital Group to explore opportunities in this unpredictable market.
Key Takeaways and Future Forecasts
The conference will feature CEOs from notable investment firms. Vanguard’s CEO Salim Ramji will discuss the company’s legacy of low-cost indexing, reflecting on the past 50 years and looking forward.
Notably, Dodge & Cox will also showcase its successful active investment strategies. Their CEO Dana Emery will shed light on the firm’s approach and the potential changes in the investment landscape.
These discussions are crucial for many investors seeking to meet their goals. Additionally, a session led by Christine Benz on retirement planning specifically for women will be highlighted. This is particularly significant, considering women’s longer lifespans and unique financial journeys.
Jean Chatzky, founder of Hermoney.com, discussed how caregiving impacts women’s investment strategies in a recent episode, adding yet another dimension to planning for the future.
Overall, the conference presents a valuable opportunity for investors to gain insights into market trends and investment strategies.
