2025 NBA Draft Overview
Welcome to the 2025 NBA Draft. This year unfolds without much suspense at the top, especially compared to last year. It seems pretty clear that Cooper Flagg is set to be the first pick later tonight. The Dallas Mavericks secured this top selection during the NBA Draft Lottery. Flagg is a versatile player, showcasing defensive skills alongside offensive prowess, both in the low post and beyond.
Following Flagg, there’s a good chance the San Antonio Spurs will go for Rutgers guard Dylan Harper. Harper, son of former NBA star Ron Harper, possesses impressive playmaking abilities, though his shooting consistency might raise a few eyebrows.
After these two, things could get a little unpredictable. Ace Bailey, Flagg’s teammate at Rutgers, seemed like a solid choice for the Philadelphia 76ers at number three. However, his draft stock took a tumble recently. It seems there have been concerns raised—like a recent comment from Paul George, who questioned Bailey’s fit in today’s game, along with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s remarks about Philadelphia’s pre-draft strategy.
If Philadelphia decides to pursue a different path, they might look towards Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe instead.
The excitement kicks off late tonight, and I plan to catch up on SB Nation’s Top 60 rankings, especially the analyses around players like Colin Murray Boyles and Harper. There’s also a fresh NBA Mock Draft to browse through, as well as a discussion on three sleeper picks from this year’s draft. You might want to check out the winners and losers from the NBA Draft Combine, too.
If you’re interested in how each pick performs, we’ve got you covered on that as well.
Don’t forget to check back regularly as the first round unfolds starting Wednesday night, with the second round beginning Thursday afternoon.
