2026 Genesis GV70: Is the top SUV of today produced in America?

The compact luxury SUV market is competitive, with vehicles like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 as prominent players. However, the 2026 Genesis GV70 stands out by combining style, performance, and value, making it a formidable choice against established rivals like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The model I had the chance to drive was fitted with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 engine, offering 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, and accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

After getting a feel for the GV70, I can confidently say it ranks among the top in its segment. To sidestep tariffs, Hyundai, Genesis’s parent company, will manufacture the GV70 in the U.S.

Athletic Elegance

The GV70’s exterior adopts Genesis’s design philosophy, dubbed “athletic elegance,” featuring a redesigned bumper, a dual-woven mesh grille, and striking full LED quad lights. With the sport trim, it showcases black accents, a rear spoiler, and optional 21-inch alloy wheels that enhance its dynamic appearance.

Inside, the cabin is quite impressive, boasting four color options of Nappa leather, including a striking ultramarine blue with orange stitching. A standout feature is the 27-inch OLED display that merges digital clusters and infotainment, allowing easy access to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system with 16 speakers. Tech features like digital keys, wireless charging, and advanced voice recognition elevate the overall experience.

Performance

The GV70 comes with two engine options. The base 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine hits 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds, achieving 22/28 mpg city/highway, along with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the twin-turbo 3.5L V6— equipped in the test model—provides considerably more power and efficiency, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. It also features an adaptive suspension system with a Sport Plus mode for a more responsive and comfortable ride.

New drive modes—snow, mud, and sand—are available, and there’s room for personalizing these settings.

Safety and Value

When it comes to safety, the GV70 has you covered with standard features that include forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Additional capabilities, such as hands-on detection and enhanced parking features, are on the way.

The GV70 comfortably seats five and adds conveniences such as heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and available massage seats in higher trims. With cargo space reaching 28.9 cubic feet, and extending to 56.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, there’s plenty of room for your belongings.

In terms of pricing, the GV70 is competitive, ranging from $47,985 to $70,095. It also offers an impressive 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty along with three years of free maintenance, which is nice. However, there are a couple of drawbacks; I found the wiper blade design lacking, and it could benefit from extra storage for smaller items.

Overall, the 2026 Genesis GV70 merges high-quality features with thrilling performance and solid value. Compared to the BMW X3, it not only offers a more luxurious interior but also better pricing, making it a top contender for luxury SUV buyers.
