21 Dead due to Russian Attack on Ukrainian Prison and Facilities

Kiev, Ukraine – Russian glide bombs and missiles struck Ukrainian prisons and medical facilities overnight, resulting in at least 21 fatalities, as officials reported. This attack comes amid ongoing bombings of civilian areas by Russia, despite the looming threat of repercussions from President Donald Trump.

Authorities have stated that at least 17 prisoners died and over 80 were injured during the Russian airstrikes in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Dnipro area, at least four individuals were killed, with eight others sustaining injuries.

Trump indicated recently that he had a plan to halt violence in Ukraine following a prolonged conflict with President Vladimir Putin. He had previously set a 50-day deadline for Russian leadership, suggesting that he aims to foster peace initiatives by early August.

Despite Trump’s repeated criticism of Putin’s attacks on Ukrainian civilians, the Kremlin remains steadfast in its military approach.

“I’m disappointed with Putin,” Trump expressed during his time in Scotland.

However, the Kremlin responded to Trump’s comments, with Putin’s top EU advisor cautioning him against “playing an ultimatum game with Russia.”

Former President Dmitry Medvedev, now a deputy director of Russia’s security council, remarked on a social media platform that “Russia is not Israel or Iran.” He added, “Every new ultimatum represents a threat—leading not just to war between Russia and Ukraine but potentially internal conflict as well.”

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, the Kremlin has issued warnings to Western supporters of Ukraine, asserting that their involvement could escalate the conflict to NATO nations.

A recent report from a Washington think tank highlighted the Kremlin’s portrayal of the conflict as a geopolitical battle with the West, aimed at consolidating domestic support for the war and future actions against NATO.

The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Russia launched two Iskander M ballistic missiles and 37 Shahed drones. Thankfully, 32 of these drones were reportedly intercepted or neutralized by Ukrainian defenses.

According to Ukrainian state criminal execution services, a Russian attack just before midnight struck the Bilenkivska correctional facility with four guided bombs.

At least 42 inmates suffered serious injuries, alongside another 40 individuals, including a staff member, who experienced various levels of harm.

The strike resulted in significant damage to prison facilities, but authorities reported no breaches of the perimeter.

Ukrainian officials condemned the assault, asserting that targeting civilian infrastructure like prisons constitutes a war crime under international law.

In Dnipro, a missile hit the city, partially destroying a three-story building and damaging local medical facilities, including a hospital. Two casualties were reported, along with five injuries, one of whom is a pregnant woman in critical condition.

Moreover, Russian attacks continued in the Synelnykivskyi district, using drones and airstrikes, leading to at least one fatality and two injuries.

According to Lysak, Russian forces targeted the Velykomykhailivska community, which resulted in a 75-year-old woman’s death and injuries to a 68-year-old man.
