Tragic Passing of Ethan McLeod
Ethan McLeod, a former player for England’s Sixth Division club Macclesfield FC, has sadly passed away at the age of 21 due to injuries from a car accident, as confirmed by the club on Wednesday.
McLeod was in a vehicle collision on the M1 while driving back from a match against Bedford Town in the National League North.
In a heartfelt statement, Macclesfield FC expressed their grief, stating, “Ethan was a remarkably talented member of our squad, eagerly awaiting his big chance. His infectious personality touched everyone he met. Ethan gave his all in everything he did, motivating us to excel both on and off the pitch.” They further mentioned that his professionalism and vibrant spirit inspired those around him, even during challenging times. “The news of Ethan’s sudden absence has left the entire club in shock, and the sadness we feel cannot be expressed in words.”
During the 2023-24 season, McLeod made eight appearances for Wolverhampton in Premier League Two, accumulating a total of 84 minutes on the field.
“Though the emotional impact of Ethan’s loss will likely always be felt, his legacy will remain strong, regardless of how much time passes,” Macclesfield added. “Ethan will forever be in our hearts and minds, and his charming smile will not be forgotten.” They extended their deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult period, assuring them of their support.
At the time of the accident, McLeod was a substitute for Macclesfield in the game against Bedford Town.
Macclesfield FC currently finds itself in 11th place in the National League North standings after playing 19 matches.
