A startling video has come to light showing a bull rider being thrown from a bull and subsequently trampled in front of a shocked crowd during a rodeo in the Bronx on Sunday.
A 25-year-old man sustained injuries after being attacked by the animal during a sanctioned rodeo on Bruner Street, according to New York City police.
Witnesses reported that the rider briefly lost consciousness and seemed to be bleeding following the incident.
In footage that surfaced, the rider appears to lose awareness while still on the bucking bull, likely after sustaining a head injury.
The video captures his hat flying off as he is tossed around, arms flailing, on the back of the powerful bull. The bull’s hind legs kick, dislodging the rider, who is then thrown to the ground.
What made matters worse was that his foot remained caught in the stirrup, leaving him vulnerable beneath the animal. Spectators gasped in horror as the bull trampled over him and dragged him across the arena.
Several rodeo organizers rushed into the pen to assist the man while the bull continued to thrash. Eventually, they managed to free him, and onlookers came to support, fanning him as he was taken away.
The rider was transported to the hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses described the harrowing scene, noting that the rider appeared to be bleeding and briefly unconscious after the event.
“My buddy got hurt pretty badly,” said Gato, a fellow bullfighter. “He was thrown off after spinning, stepped on, and knocked out. I hope he’s okay.”
Osvaldo Sanchez, another audience member, mentioned the shocking nature of the incident but acknowledged the inherent risks of bull riding. “It was alarming for the young kids watching, and they were clearly worried too. I’ve seen it before, so I was able to film it up close,” he noted.
