26 NCAA softball players baptized together prior to competing in the Conference USA tournament

A remarkable gathering saw 26 athletes, who usually compete against each other, come together for baptisms just before the Conference USA Women’s Softball Tournament.

Players from Jacksonville State, Liberty University, Sam Houston, and Western Kentucky University participated in this baptism event, which came about unexpectedly and was not on the agenda. Interestingly, it took place during a pre-arranged worship event called “Hill Worship” at WKU, which hosts the tournament.

The WKU Fellowship of Christian Athletes worked with a local church in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to organize the baptisms. Initially, 29 students were baptized during a service that inspired members of the Jacksonville State softball team to join after their game against WKU.

Following the initial baptisms, a Jacksonville player reached out to one from WKU, helping to arrange yet another baptism event, inviting players from various teams in town for the tournament. It’s pretty impressive considering they are all gearing up for intense competition.

“On May 5th, 29 athletes were baptized at WKU’s South Lawn. Some CUSA players had to leave early and missed their opportunity,” reported the WKU Christian Athlete Fellowship. Instagram.

“However, the next evening, on May 6th, 26 athletes took the plunge and were baptized in a hotel pool, inspired by the previous night’s worship,” they added.

“You could feel the Lord in the room.”

“Often, the Lord stirs their hearts during such gatherings,” said David Bird, director of WKU FCA. “Post-event, we felt this was a moment where God truly moved.”

“What made it all the more special is that these players have been rivals throughout the season,” Bird noted.

The atmosphere during the event was notably peaceful, with no competitive tension among the women. “It was pure peace. You could feel the Lord in the room,” he summarized.

Liberty University, known for its strong performances, leads with a record of 45-11 (23-3) this season, sitting ahead of Jacksonville and WKU by eight games.
