Polestar Recalls Over 27,800 Electric Vehicles
Polestar has announced a recall of more than 27,800 Polestar 2 electric vehicles in the United States due to an issue where the backup camera may not display images properly.
A report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that affected vehicles may show a notification stating “camera is temporarily unavailable” instead of displaying the rear view as expected. This failure could raise the likelihood of accidents.
According to the NHTSA, this problem stems from a synchronization error between the parking assist camera and the infotainment system’s hardware. The vehicles in question were produced between July 2020 and late November of last year, so if you own one, you might be experiencing this issue.
Polestar expects owners of the recalled vehicles to receive a notification letter regarding the recall, which officially starts on June 19th.
To address the problem, Polestar plans to implement fixes via software updates. They indicated that the solution would ensure stable high-speed connections between the relevant systems and include a reset option to restore video signals when errors occur.
First introduced in the U.S. market in 2020, the Polestar 2 model has been sold in multiple global markets, with Polestar itself based in Sweden. As they continue to navigate these technical challenges, it remains to be seen how this will impact consumer trust moving forward.
