A 29-year-old mother was stabbed to death by a woman during a broad daylight fight Thursday at a Bronx mall, police and witnesses said.
Police and witnesses say Gwendolyn Guyton was inside the Jose Mini Market at Southern Boulevard and East 149th Street when a rival burst in and struggled with her before 3:15 p.m. Around that time, he allegedly stabbed Gwendolyn Guyton with a knife multiple times into her neck and torso.
Warehouse workers desperately tried to stop the bloodshed.
“I tried to save the girl and get her out of the store before she got stabbed,” said Alex, who works inside a deli in Longwood.
“When they were fighting, when they were fighting, I was trying to chase them away. But when I saw the knife, I was trying to help the victim.”
Alex and his colleagues held Guyton's injured body as they waited for medical personnel to arrive.
Witness Mario Marrero came across the gruesome scene outside the store.
“She was lying in front of the store,” Marrero said. “She was just lying there covered in blood. It was all over her body.”
Guyton was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, but could not be saved.
Police said the woman who killed her fled the store on a white motorcycle but has not yet been captured.
Local resident Shelby Miller said Guyton often bought cigarettes at the warehouse, leaving her son alone.
“She didn't deserve that,” Miller said. “No matter what she did, no one deserves to be killed like that.”
