3 Doors Down has had to cancel their upcoming tour due to lead singer and drummer Brad Arnold’s recent stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
Arnold, 51, shared this distressing news on social media on Wednesday, May 7th.
“Hey guys, that’s a 3 Doors Down blood,” he began in an Instagram video. “I hope you have a great day today. There’s not much good news today.”
After feeling unwell and going to the hospital, Arnold discovered a few weeks ago that he has clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer. It was revealed that the cancer had already progressed to stage 4 and had spread to his lungs.
“So I went to the hospital a few weeks ago after getting sick, checked out and was diagnosed with clear cellular renal cancer that actually metastasized to my lungs,” he explained. “And it’s stage 4, and that’s not good.”
In spite of this shocking diagnosis, the “Let Me Go” vocalist stated that he is “not afraid” and feels “not at all scared” about his situation.
“But what do you know?” Arnold remarked. “We serve a mighty God who can overcome anything, so I have no fear.”
As a result of Arnold’s diagnosis, the band had to cancel their tour beginning in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 15th.
“But we’re going to have to cancel the tour this summer,” he announced. “And I’m sorry, and I hope you will lift me up in prayer every time you get it. And I think it’s time to hear a bit of ‘It’s not my time.’”
Arnold reiterated the sentiment of his 2008 hit song in the caption of his emotional Instagram video.
“I am grateful for all the memories I’ve had so far. I believe now, ‘It’s not my time,’” he wrote. “This will be a battle, so we need a prayer warrior! I’m grateful to be the best fan in the world. We love everything!”
All shows originally planned for the upcoming tour of 3 Doors Down will be taken off the band’s website.
In place of these shows, the group shared a “Message from Blood” and linked to Arnold’s video for fans.
3 Doors Down rose to fame in 2000 with their hit single “Cryptonite.” The band, established in Escatawpa, Michigan in 1996, originally featured Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts, and bassist Todd Harrell, with guitarist Chris Henderson joining in 1998.
