3. Fun and kid-friendly
Slide 3 of 3
This sequel isn’t as good as its predecessor, but it still has plenty of laughs.
Joy and friends visit Imaginationland, where they encounter “Mount Rushmore” (a Rushmore-like monument symbolizing Riley’s deepest boyish longings) and “The Rumor Mill” (an actual water wheel that spits out random rumors).
New combinations of emotions bring fresh humor and charm to the story. Shyness is too embarrassed to look other people in the eye. Jealousy is jealous of other girls’ hairstyles. Boredom (or, more precisely, ennui) scrolls through her phone constantly. Anxiety imagines the worst case scenario about everything. (Anxiety says that if Riley doesn’t make the high school hockey team, she’ll never have any friends and will die alone.)
Thankfully, Inside Out 2 It’s also kid-friendly: there’s no sexual content, violence or language (at worst, the expression “oh my goodness” is used four times).
Of course, it’s important for kids watching the movie to understand that they’re responsible for their own actions, not a bunch of uncontrollable anthropomorphized emotions in their heads, but once you get past that caveat, there’s a lot to like about this sequel.
Rated PG for some thematic elements.
