There were 4 people be charged with murder A 3-year-old child was bludgeoned to death by two teenagers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Police said on February 12th at approximately 3:45 p.m., they responded to a call from a child regarding an unresponsive infant at a residence on O’Neill Lane. When they arrived, there were no adults and eight children in the home.
The infant, named Blessing Buckles, was taken to the hospital with injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, including bleeding on the brain, bruising, and abrasions to his face and body.
She died from her injuries two days later on Wednesday.
While police were at the home, two adults arrived and said they had been at the casino for several hours, leaving the children alone. Dineshia Yates, 26, was the infant’s mother, and Terika Scott, 26, was the suspect’s mother and aunt.
According to arrest records, Yates lived with Scott for several weeks and was often away from the children. The eight children ranged in age from 11 months to 12 years.
Police identified two of the children, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, as suspects in Buckles’ death and booked them into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center on charges of simple assault and second-degree murder.
Yates and Scott allegedly told police that they had learned about the violent act from one of the underage suspects. As a result of the investigation, both were arrested, with Scott being charged by the principal with second-degree murder and the principal with assault, Yates being charged with second-degree murder by the principal, and the principal with simple assault.
WBRZ-TV report Yates had been arrested numerous times on charges including drug possession and theft. Scott was also arrested on second-degree murder charges in 2021, but a grand jury chose not to formally indict her.
Bonds for Mr. Yates and Mr. Scott were each set at $20,000.
